Dear Members,
September brings Spring! Longer days – golden daffodils – football finals! And of course the Royal Melbourne Show!
It was a very happy time at Morning Tea at the Bionic Ear Institute recently when a group of State Office Bearers was invited to attend to receive a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of the funds the Association raised in the 2009 Thanksgiving Fund.
During the past month of August wonderful times have been spent travelling the State, meeting and enjoying the company and fellowship of fellow members during Conference rounds. Traversing the Western District, the Goulburn Valley and many places in between. It was wonderful to be home in my own Group – Echuca – I did not need directions to find the correct road or venue.
Many interesting discussions were held – social issues, health, plus local issues of concern to members. Success stories too, plus great fellowship enjoyed within groups. Some rural groups are large with many members travelling great distances to take part in their Group Conference. I thank Group Presidents and members for providing true Country Women’s Association hospitality.
A happy and successful Gala Luncheon was held at the RACV Club in the city to raise funds for the Thanksgiving Fund for 2010 – Skin & Cancer Foundation Victoria. Congratulations to State Treasurer Kaye Kyle, with help from the Fundraising Committee, for the organization of this event.
Congratulations are also extended to Creative Arts Committee Chairman Wendy Earwicker, her Committee and all helpers, on the staging of a successful and enjoyable State Creative Arts Exhibition at Longwarry. Congratulations also to the winners and ALL who exhibited or contributed to make an exquisite showcase of members’ talents to the public.
During the last several months members have been busy practicing for the State Choral and Drama Festival at Swan Hill. I am looking forward to this event with great anticipation and hope for a strong support from members.
Catering Committee Convenor Helen Slattery and members of the Catering Committee are anticipating a busy time 18-28 September – Royal Melbourne Show time! I trust the weather will be kind, making for crowds, which ensures success in the catering pavilion.
I remind members that Scholarship and Educational Grants applications close at the end of September. Please follow the application form closely and remember that your Group President must be the last to sign the application form.
I hope many will book in for Holiday Week 18-22 October. Convenors SVP Jennifer Currie and SVP Janette Mason have planned a great program for all to enjoy.
Signed letters and phone calls are always welcome and suggestions are seriously considered and may be implemented, after discussion with members on the issues raised. The Association is unable to deal with unsigned correspondence.
Remember – There are big ships and small ships – but the best ship of is friendship (Author unknown).
I wish you all happy days and good health.
With love to all,
Helen Christie
State President
