The Castlemaine Sustainable Sewing Saturday Program

The Castlemaine Branch of the Country Women’s Association of Victoria was successful in obtaining a grant from the Victorian Government Volunteer Small Grants program to purchase sewing machines and overlockers to help branch members promote sewing as a sustainable practice amongst local community members.

The Sustainable Sewing Saturday program operates the first and last Saturday of the month at the Ray Bradfield Rooms Castlemaine.

The launch is being held to promote the program and also in partnership with the Mt Alexander Shire Council activities for National Volunteer Week.

The Castlemaine Branch of the Country Women’s Association received funding from the State Government’s Volunteer Small Grants to purchase sewing machines and an overlocker for public use.

As part of the Castlemaine CWA Branch’s Sustainable Sewing Saturdays program, held on the first and last Saturday of each month at the Ray Bradfield rooms, these machines will be available for people to come along and use.  The Sustainable Sewing Saturdays program allows you to bring along your projects to work on at your own pace, sharing tips and pointers and learning new skills.  Sewers, knitters, spinners, needleworkers and craftspeople of any skill level are all welcome.

Official launch by the State President Mrs Helen Wall, on Saturday, 16th May at 11.00 am at the CWA Rooms (Ray Bradfield Room) behind the RSL in Mostyn Street, Castlemaine.  The launch is happening as part of a Community Expo for National Volunteer Week and will include a display of local CWA activities including craft items made by Central Victorian CWA members.
