THANKSGIVING FUND The Thanksgiving Fund originated during World War II as a way of raising funds to support community or projects for medical research. Money is raised by voluntary contributions from members and specific fundraising activities such as the Thanksgiving Luncheon. Each year members select a worthy cause to support. The 2010 Thanksgiving Fund recipient is the Skin and Cancer Foundation Victoria.
SKIN & CANCER FOUNDATION VICTORIA OVERVIEW The Skin & Cancer Foundation Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation that provides specialist treatment for a wide variety of skin diseases. Clinicians address a range of skin diseases including hair, nail, psoriasis and eczema, undertaking patch testing and skin cancer management. As well as general skin cancer surgery, clinicians also offer specialised Mohs’ micrographic surgery for more disfiguring cancers. Services of the Foundation are only available through specialist referral. A GP will first refer a patient to a dermatologist. As one of Australia’s leading centres for skin disease research and treatment the Foundation conducts regular trials, collects clinical data and supports projects in other dermatology centres. Ongoing trials enable significant advancements in skin disease treatment and patient care. The Foundation’s education arm reaches diverse groups of people from GPs to trainee dermatologists, with regular lectures and training clinics. If you would like to make a donation to the Thanksgiving Fund please contact Head Office on 03 9827 8971.
