FOOD When staying at the Country Women’s Association Bed and Breakfast, guests often look for some local eating options. Whether it is a quick lunch, a take-away dinner or a full, multi-course meal, Toorak Village has hunger pangs covered. Located two blocks from Lansell Road, the Village provides a wide variety of dining choices, catering for every taste and budget. Of course, a delicious continental breakfast is provided as part of everyone’s stay at the CWA B&B but a few short hours later the tummy may begin rumbling. For a quick bite, there are several options: Browns Bakery provides a range of pies, pasties, sausage rolls as well as a delicious selection of breads, while Bakers Delight showcases a tasty assortment of snacks, breads and rolls. Laurent Bakery gives a more up-market luncheon experience, channelling the idea of a sidewalk cafe in Paris. For a larger meal for lunch, select a noodle combination from Noodleworx. However, my personal recommendation for a great lunch at an affordable price is Puccinos. Create your own sandwich, choose a freshly made foccacia, select a snack from the bain-marie or decide on one of the many options from the delicious lunch menu. The chicken parmagiana is a personal favourite and I am yet to be disappointed with any meal from Puccinos. A wide range of slices, cakes and biscuits is also available. When it comes time for dinner after a day of shopping in the city or checking out the art galleries, Toorak Village is the place to be. Here are my top five dining options: 5. Chooka’s – this take-away roast option is fantastic value for money. While there is a wide choice of burgers, rolls, and finger foods available, the real treat lies in the take-away roast dinners. Select from a range of roast vegetables or fresh salads to go with your chicken, pork, lamb or beef. 4. Gourmet Roast Carvery – another fantastic roast option. Though it doesn’t have as large a range as Chooka’s, it’s still a delicious option for take away roasts. Feel free to bring these meals back to the CWA B&B and feast in the dining room. 3. Fiorini’s Café Bar and Restaurant – authentic Italian food, traditional wood-fired pizza, delicious homemade pasta. This outstanding restaurant is a valued part of Toorak Village. When hungry for a pizza, choose the barbeque chicken … satisfaction guaranteed! 2. Toorak Lion Hotel – a traditional English pub, right in the heart of the Village. Order a beer or wine, pull up a chair and select from an awesome menu offering all the traditional pub classics – chicken parma, bangers ’n’ mash, gourmet pies, steak, salads and toasted cheese sandwiches. Everything on this menu is outstanding and patrons will love the authentic British atmosphere. 1. Romeo’s Toorak – the unquestioned hallmark of Toorak dining. Romeo’s has an extensive menu, offering a wide range of eating options. A word of advice – it may be worth skipping lunch if you plan to dine here for dinner, as the meals are absolutely massive. Romeo’s provides great value for money in a friendly, professional atmosphere. A must-do when you stay with the CWA. Bon appetit! Ashley Braybon CWA B & B night duty person
